  22.  
  23.      This file contains the latest installation information on the
  24.      Novell NetWare v2.x driver for the COMPAQ 32-Bit DualSpeed
  25.      Token Ring Controller. The document contains updated
  26.      installation instructions for installation with NetWare v2.2
  27.      and additional information about new features. All references
  28.      to COMPAQ 32-Bit DualSpeed Token Ring Controller also refer
  29.      to the COMPAQ Enhanced 32-Bit DualSpeed Token Ring Controller.

  32. 2. UPGRADE INFORMATION
  33.  
  34.      ALL SYSTEMS:
  35.  
  36.         When configuring the operating system, Network Board A must
  37.         be configured for the COMPAQ 32-Bit DualSpeed Token Ring
  38.         Controller. If you receive the error message: 
  39.  
  40.         WARNING: Unresolved external FUNCINFO
  41.         WARNING: Unresolved external ACPQMAC
  42.  
  43.         Use the NetWare 2.x installation utility to change the
  44.         network configuration, so that Network Board A is
  45.         configured for the COMPAQ 32-Bit DualSpeed Token Ring
  46.         Controller.
  47.  
  48.      FOR EXISTING CONFIGURATIONS:
  49.  
  50.         You will need to change the network configuration of the
  51.         operating system, if the following conditions are true:
  52.  
  53.         - you are upgrading your COMPAQ 32-Bit DualSpeed Token Ring
  54.           Controller driver from a version before v1.20, and
  55.  
  56.         - a COMPAQ 32-Bit DualSpeed Token Ring controller has been
  57.           installed in slot 7 of a COMPAQ SYSTEMPRO
  58.  
  59.         Versions before v1.20 required that the network
  60.         configuration be set for SLOT=6.  For network driver v1.20
  61.         and above, change the configuration to SLOT=7.

  64.      CHANGES FROM PREVIOUS RELEASE v1.10
  65.  
  66.      1. You no longer must copy the file MAC380.BIN to the SYSTEM
  67.         subdirectory on your server.
  68.  
  69.      2. The driver supports the Remote Program Load VAP (RPL.VP1)
  70.  
  71.      3. The driver supports NetWare for Macintosh v2.2
  72.  
  73.      4. Performance has been improved.

  75.      5. Using a slot designator of 6 when a COMPAQ 32-Bit DualSpeed
  76.         Token Ring Controller is installed in slot 7 of a COMPAQ
  77.         SYSTEMPRO is no longer required. With version 1.20, you
  78.         should use the slot 7 designator.

  103. 5. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
  104.  
  105.   The COMPAQ NetWare 2.x device drivers require:
  106.  
  107.       * Any COMPAQ EISA computer with the COMPAQ 32-Bit DualSpeed
  108.         Token Ring controller installed. The system must have been
  109.         configured using the COMPAQ EISA Configuration Utility.  
  110.  
  111.       * Novell NetWare version 2.1x or above.

  114. 6. INSTALLATION UPDATE
  115.  
  116.      BEFORE BEGINNING THE INSTALLATION OF NETWARE, NOTE THE SLOT
  117.      NUMBER(S) WHERE YOU HAVE INSTALLED THE COMPAQ 32-BIT DUAL
  118.      SPEED TOKEN RING CONTROLLER. YOU WILL NEED THIS INFORMATION
  119.      DURING THE INSTALLATION OF NETWARE. 
  120.  
  121.      In the following procedures, refer to your NetWare
  122.      documentation for information on using NetWare installation
  123.      procedures.  Either NETGEN.EXE or INSTALL.EXE may be used to
  124.      install this driver. To install the device driver for the
  125.      Token Ring Controller on a server, follow the procedure that
  126.      best serves your needs:

  128.      FLOPPY DISKETTE DRIVE INSTALLATION PROCEDURE:
  129.  
  130.      1. If you are installing Novell NetWare 2.x from diskettes,
  131.         format a blank diskette with the volume label
  132.         "LAN_DRV_428".  Copy the following files from the
  133.         NOVELL\NW286.21x subdirectory on the COMPAQ Option
  134.         Configuration diskette to the blank diskette:
  135.  
  136.           ACPQT416.OBJ
  137.           BCPQT416.OBJ
  138.           CCPQT416.OBJ
  139.           DCPQT416.OBJ
  140.           CPQT416.LAN
  141.  
  142.      Note:
  143.      For more information about the MS-DOS FORMAT, LABEL, and COPY
  144.      commands, refer to your MS- DOS documentation.
  145.  
  146.      2. To configure the Novell NetWare server to use the Token
  147.         Ring Controller, follow the file server installation
  148.         instructions in the NetWare documentation.
  149.  
  150.      Note:
  151.      During the installation procedure you will be prompted to
  152.      insert the diskette labeled "LAN_DRV_???".  Insert the
  153.      diskette you prepared in step 1. During the installation
  154.      procedure you will also need to choose a LAN configuration for
  155.      the Token Ring Controller. Choose the configuration which
  156.      corresponds to the slot where you installed a Token Ring
  157.      Controller.  Unlike some NetWare LAN drivers, the COMPAQ
  158.      32-Bit DualSpeed Token Ring Controller driver automatically
  159.      configures the controller hardware for operation with Novell
  160.      NetWare.

  162.      IMPORTANT:
  163.      Network board A must be configured for the COMPAQ DualSpeed
  164.      Token Ring Controller.
  165.  
  166.      NetWare v2.2 installation tip:
  167.      During the installation procedure, after you highlight the
  168.      network board driver field and press <Enter>, you must then
  169.      press <Insert> to load the Token Ring driver. Then insert the
  170.      diskette you prepared in step 1.

  172.      Note:
  173.      If you are installing other options which require special
  174.      installation for NetWare, such as the COMPAQ 32-Bit
  175.      Intelligent Drive Array Controller, follow the installation
  176.      procedure for installing Novell NetWare 2.x with that option
  177.      in conjunction with these instructions.

  180.      FIXED DISK DRIVE INSTALLATION PROCEDURE:
  181.  
  182.      1. If you are installing Novell NetWare v2.x from a fixed disk
  183.         or network drive, create a subdirectory named LAN_DRV_.428
  184.         on the same directory where the NetWare installation
  185.         program is stored. Copy the  following files from the
  186.         NOVELL\NW286.21x subdirectory on the COMPAQ Option
  187.         Configuration diskette to the LAN_DRV_.428 subdirectory:

  189.           ACPQT416.OBJ
  190.           BCPQT416.OBJ
  191.           CCPQT416.OBJ
  192.           DCPQT416.OBJ

  196.      2. To configure the NetWare server to use the COMPAQ 32-Bit
  197.         DualSpeed Token Ring Controller, follow the file server
  198.         installation instructions in the NetWare documentation.

  201.      Note:
  202.      During the installation procedure you will need to choose a
  203.      LAN configuration for the Token Ring Controller. Choose the
  204.      configuration which corresponds to the slot where you
  205.      installed a Token Ring Controller. For example, if you
  206.      installed a Token Ring Controller in Slot 7, choose SLOT=7. 
  207.      Unlike some NetWare LAN drivers, the COMPAQ 32-Bit DualSpeed
  208.      Token Ring Controller driver automatically configures the
  209.      controller hardware for operation with Novell NetWare.
  210.  
  211.      IMPORTANT:
  212.      Network board "A" must be configured for the COMPAQ 32-Bit
  213.      DualSpeed Token Ring Controller.
  214.  
  215.      If you are unable to correctly load the device driver:
  216.  
  217.      1. Verify your Token Ring Controller(s) configuration by
  218.         running CHKTOK.EXE, found on the OPTION CONFIGURATION
  219.         diskette.
  220.  
  221.      2. To test your system hardware, run DIAGNOSTICS Version 7.02
  222.         or later.  
  223.  
  224.      3. Refer to the COMPAQ 32-Bit DualSpeed Token Ring Controller
  225.         Installation Card for more information on using these
  226.         utilities, or contact an Authorized COMPAQ Computer
  227.         Reseller.

  231. 7. SOURCE ROUTING SUPPORT
  232.  
  233.      Source routing is a method of routing data across multiple
  234.      networks through bridges. To enable the server to pass data
  235.      through a source routing bridge, the server must be installed
  236.      with the source routing Value Added Process (VAP) included
  237.      with Novell NetWare. The source routing VAP is necessary only
  238.      if external source routing bridges are present on the network.
  239.      The source routing VAP, file ROUTE.VP0, is available on the
  240.      NetWare v2.2 LAN Driver Object File LAN-DRV-001 diskette. The
  241.      Novell NetWare source routing VAP and installation
  242.      instructions are also available on Compuserve NetWire under
  243.      NOVLIB forum in library 6 (NetWare Utilities) in the
  244.      TOKENB.ZIP file.
